McCOOK, Neb. -- Mother Nature teamed up with the Baseball Gods to hold off the clouds and rain long enough Friday night to allow the American League to defeat the National League 5-4 in the 2016 Majors Division All Star game to be played.

The All Star game is an annual Felling Field tradition that features select players from the 5th and 6th grade kids pitched division to face off against one another in a light-hearted contest to close out the Felling Field season.

Each team consisted of 12 players from three different Majors division ball clubs. The American League team featured stars from the First Central Bank Cardinals, Bortner Pioneer Seed Yankees and Tequila's Mexican Grill Rays. The National League squad teamed up players representing the Stevens Farm Rockies, Gatorade Mets and O'Brien Electric Inc Royals.

The American League's Carter Van Pelt opened up the ball game with a lead-off single followed by two stolen bases. Alex Anthony drove in Van Pelt on an infield ground out to stake the American League to an early 1-0 lead. The lead grew to 5-0 by the end of the third inning as Payton Dellevoet, Hunter Hansen, Van Pelt and Alex Anthony collected hits in the third frame propelling the American League into a comfortable advantage. The National League retaliated with two runs in the bottom of the third and then two more in the fourth featuring a towering home run over the left field fence by Max Weimer cutting the American League's lead to 5-4.

It turned out that would be the final score as pitching took over in the ballgame and neither team tallied a run in the final three innings of play. For the National League the pitching combination of Adam Dugger, Eli Kehler and Evan Humphrey did not allow a hit or run and struck out seven. Steller defensive plays by the National League also brought the crowd to their feet including a Humphrey to Keynan Gaston to Kehler relay of throws from center field to home plate to gun down the American League's Garrett Kaps on a potential scoring play. For the American League the pitching trio of Kaps, Dellevoet and Van Pelt only gave up two hits, holding the National League scoreless while striking out five over the final three frames with the highlight being Van Pelt retiring three consecutive batters in the bottom of the seventh inning solidifying the win for the American League.
