NORTH PLATTE, Neb. -- Eight business instructors from Mid-Plains Community College have been honored with Belong, Excel, Study and Travel awards by the Nebraska Department of Education.

They are Angie Chittick, Jean Condon, Kathleen McCune, Cathy Nutt, Ann Reichle, Janet Stalder, Lorrie Mowry and Jimi Cole. Mowry and Cole received milestone awards - Mowry for 10 years and Cole for one year.

"Winning the BEST award was a great honor as a first-year instructor," said Cole. "I owe the rest of the business instructors at MPCC a great big 'thank you' for showing me the ropes and helping me get involved with professional business organizations. I couldn't have gotten the award without them."

BEST awards exemplify superior qualities such as dedication to students, community outreach and continual classroom improvement efforts. All of the MPCC instructors were recognized for contributing to the quality of education in their community and the state.

They demonstrated significant involvement in professional associations, community and school activities, professional leadership development and service to the business education profession.

"The criterion for the BEST award challenges me every day in the classroom to model excellence and provide real-life and relevant learning opportunities for students," said Mowry. "It is an honor to be recognized as a 10-year consecutive recipient of the award."

The MPCC instructors were among a total of 52 business teachers from across the state recognized at the Nebraska Career Education Conference June 8 in Kearney.
