ARAPAHOE, Neb. -- Wayne Riepe, 83, of Arapahoe, died Sunday (June 5, 2016), at his home.

He was born Aug. 10, 1932, at Arapahoe to Benhard C. and Jennie C. (Haussler) Riepe. He graduated from Arapahoe High School in 1950. He attended the University of Nebraska College Of Agriculture. Leon was inducted into the U.S. Army in 1953. Following completion of his service, he returned to finish his studies at the Ag College. On June 11, 1955, he married Margaret Anne Harmon at Park Center Congregational Church in rural Elgin, Neb.

Following his graduation in 1956, they returned to the Riepe family homestead south of Arapahoe. He retired in 2012 and moved to Sunshine Village.

He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, served as a 4-H club project leader, founding member of the Arapahoe Area Food Pantry, and a member of Edison, Neb., American Legion Post No. 343.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Margaret; and grandson, Evan Wayne Riepe.

Survivors include his children, Susan Riepe of Lincoln, Neb., Anne and Doug Hadley of Ralston, Neb., and Doug and Janet Riepe of Cheney, Kan.; brother, Dale and Evelyn Riepe of Mount Pleasant, Texas; and three grandchildren.

Visitation is Thursday, June 9, 2016, from 2 to 8 p.m. and Friday, June 10, 2016, from 9 to 11 a.m. at Wenburg Funeral Home in Arapahoe.

Funeral services are Friday, June 10, 2016, 1:30 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Arapahoe with the Rev. James Moshier officiating. Interment will be at the Arapahoe Cemetery with military rites.
