Alan M. Rucker

March 1, 1952 - Oct. 17, 2015

MARSHFIELD, Wis. -- Alan M. Rucker, age 63, of Marshfield, passed away Saturday, Oct. 17, 2015, in Marshfield.

Alan was born on March 1, 1952, in Chicago, Ill. He spent a great deal of his early life on the farm with his grandparents, Dave and Gladys Alexander. His parents, Stanley and Marilyn Rucker, spent their entire married life in Hayes Center, Neb., along with their son, Alan, and a brother, Michael Steven Rucker, who passed away in infancy.

Alan graduated from Hayes Center High School in 1972. He worked for the McCook Gazette delivering papers for 30 years, longer than any other carrier. He especially enjoyed visiting with people, petting the friendly cats and dogs and all the cookies and candy from his patrons at Christmas time. He also had his own lawn service. He loved going to the Senior Center not only to enjoy a meal but to visit, laugh and joke with all his friends. He was a member of the Congregational Church in Hayes Center.

In July of 2009, after the death of his parents, Alan moved to Marshfield, Wis., to be near his cousin, Carolyn, and her husband, Jim. He lived independently in an apartment complex up until his illness six weeks ago. He made many new good friends, playing cards, playing pool, sharing birthday parties, going out to eat, always joking, teasing and helping out anyone who needed help. He was a ray of sunshine for many, even while playing his music too loud. He loved music, especially country western and Big Band with a large collection of records, CD's, etc. which was a huge part of his life. He was a lifelong fan of the Nebraska Cornhuskers and after moving to Wisconsin, quickly became a Green Bay Packer Cheese Head.

Alan was preceded in death by his grandparents; parents, Stanley and Marilyn; and one brother, Michael Steven Rucker.

Memorials are suggested in his name in care of Carolyn Opitz at M 504 Cherry St. Marshfield, WI 54449.

Memorial services will be at Union Congregational United Church of Christ in Hayes Center on Saturday, May 28, 2016, at 11 a.m. with Pastor Jean Miller officiating.
