MCC instructor Esch recognized for teaching
MCCOOK, Neb. -- Three instructors from Mid-Plains Community College have been named Excellence in Teaching recipients by the National Institute for Staff and Organizational Development (NISOD).
The full-time instructors are Tyler Esch, who teaches early childhood education in McCook, and Ann Reichle, who teaches accounting in North Platte. One part-time instructor was also selected, Jack Ramos-Needham, an adjunct Spanish and dual credit instructor from Arthur County High School.
"Faculty members who receive the NISOD award are some of the best we have in our classrooms," said Jody Tomanek, area vice president for academic affairs and NPCC.
"It is wonderful when we can recognize them at a national level. It is also a chance to showcase the great accomplishments of our faculty and reward them for their excellent teaching. This year is particularly exciting as we recognize Jack for his years of service, not only as an adjunct, but also as a dual credit instructor."
NISOD's Excellence Awards recognize teachers who have demonstrated an outstanding commitment and contribution to their students and colleagues. Winners are nominated by their peers.
The three recipients from MPCC will be presented with awards at NISOD's annual International Conference on Teaching and Leadership Excellence, May 29, in Austin, Texas.
They will each receive a specially cast, pewter medallion and a certificate. Additionally, their names, titles and college they represent will be included in a commemorative booklet as well as on the NISOD website and kiosks.
The MPCC instructors are excited to be named award recipients.
"It's really pretty neat," said Ramos-Needham. "I think a lot of teachers deserve to be affirmed and recognized for the profession they are in. I feel honored that I was selected when there are so many who could be recognized in such a way."
The fact that nominations come from peers is what makes the awards special to Reichle.
"I am very honored to receive a NISOD award as it is the result of a nomination made by a Mid-Plains colleague," Reichle said. "Working at Mid-Plains with people for whom I have great admiration is the real reward, but it is also very nice to receive this recognition."
Esch echoed those sentiments.
"I am humbled to be honored with the NISOD award," said Esch. "I'm also excited to attend the conference to learn more about improving my teaching skills."
Created in 1978, NISOD is an organization committed to promoting and celebrating excellence in teaching, learning and leadership at community and technical colleges. NISOD supports its member colleges by providing professional development resources and learning experiences, including practitioner publications, webinars, an international conference and the Excellence Awards.
