OMAHA, Neb. -- Gloria Mefford of First Central Bank was honored for 50 years in banking at the annual Nebraska Bankers Association convention May 5.

Gloria has just recently retired from First Central Bank in McCook where she served the last 18 years of her banking career. At the time of her retirement, Gloria was serving as First Central Banks marketing director and executive vice president.

Gloria graduated from McCook High School in 1964 and began her banking career in 1965 at First National Bank. "I started at the bottom. I was an errand runner, but I worked with people who believed in me, pushed me and most importantly taught me," Mefford said.

It didn't take long for Gloria to move up in the bank. She was consistently being promoted and moved to different jobs, strengthening her banking knowledge.

In 1998, Gloria left First National Bank for the opportunity to join Don Moore at First Central Bank. Gloria was instrumental in helping charter First Central Bank McCook, which opened Jan. 1, 1999.

"I knew at that stage of my life I was never going to have another opportunity to help charter a bank," Gloria said. First Central Bank is where she called home for the last 18 years, completing her 50 years in banking.

During her banking career, Gloria accomplished many personal and professional goals.
