Playbook provides local perspective on regional favorites

McCOOK, Neb., -- The 2016 edition of the Southwest Nebraska Playbook began distributing throughout the region in recent weeks and offers a local perspective on what newcomers to the area should prioritize during a visit.

The glossy magazine is part of a coordinated effort, between the Red Willow County Visitor's Board and the McCook Gazette, to provide a high-quality visitors guide for the area. "While some of our outdoor enthusiasts might prefer the region remain a secret, we've compiled the Southwest Nebraska Playbook as a guide to help those unfamiliar with the area more easily navigate the many enjoyable options," said Red Willow County Tourism Director Carol Schlegel in the magazine's introduction.

The second edition of the magazine features an improved lodging and restaurant database, coupled with local menu favorites and itinerary suggestions. The magazine also features regional maps touting golf and lake options, as well as a section dedicated to "Shopping Surprises," among other features.

The playbook's calendar of upcoming community celebrations and festivals will likely be of equal interest to visitors and area residents.

The Southwest Nebraska Playbook covers a broad geographical region, including Red Willow, Chase, Dundy, Frontier, Hitchcock, Furnas and Hayes Counties. The geographic size of the area and sheer volume of shopping, dining, lodging and recreational options makes an all-inclusive guide nearly impossible, however, the Gazette team would like to point out there is always next year's edition.

Businesses that would like to be considered for editorial inclusion in the guide, or have specific menu items or services they would like to tout, are encouraged to contact the Gazette via the "Submit a Story" link, included in the Forms section, at www.mccookgazette.com or by emailing: cityed@ocsmccook.com

Readers with menu or other regional favorites to share are also encouraged to participate.

The Playbook is distributed throughout the U.S. as part of several tourism literature swap programs and included in welcome packets sent out by area Chamber of Commerce organizations. Distribution racks are installed at several area lodging establishments to make copies available throughout the year. The magazine is also available at the Gazette and via numerous other regional businesses, typically prioritizing those catering to travelers.
