McCook Police Sgt. Kevin Darling directs McCook Elementary first grader Rhilee Macumber through a weaving obstacle course during the school's annual State Farm Insurance "Bike Safety Rodeo" Tuesday afternoon. McCook High School junior Emmerie Roth steadied Rambler Farr as he pedaled through a "short turn radius" course. McCook Clinic and Community Hospital Community Outreach donated new bike helmets to first and third graders at McCook Elementary, St. Patrick's School and Southwest Elementary completing the safety course. According to the National Safe Kids Campaign, wearing bike helmets can reduce the risk of head injury due to a bicycle-riding accident by as much as 85 percent. Joining Linda Maiden's State Farm staff to help the young bicyclists were members of McCook Sertoma, McCook Community College Phi Beta Lambda, Tinker Tom's bike shop and the McCook Police Department.
