Kathy Matson Memorial event supports school

McCOOK, Neb. -- Proceeds from the seventh-annual Kathy Matson Memorial co-ed volleyball tournament April 2 in McCook will help grow the Victory Christian Academy scholarship fund established by Gary Matson in memory of his wife, Kathy, who died in 2008 at the age of 50.

Members of the Gold Bracket winning team were Nate Onnan, Kearney; Kylee McConville Forch, Stratton; Nanci Ruggles Martin, of Indianola originally, Wood River; Jay Martin, Wood River; Michelle Reiners Hedke, McCook; and John Phillips, Pleasanton.

Silver Bracket winners were all from McCook: Tim Miller, Doug Petty, Shaela Jenkins, Madi Garcia, Tim Garcia and Jasmine Pritchett.

Tournament coordinators Angel and Doug Petty said that cash prizes, awarded to the first and second place teams, were sponsored by Joe and Theresa Leamon of JL Construction and Tim Miller of FedEx Ground, both of McCook. First place teams received t-shirts sponsored by McCook Lettering. They thanked McCook High School for use of the facility and nets.
