CURTIS, Neb. -- To give back to the first responders who helped him when he rolled his car, a Curtis teenager hosted a benefit and raised $4,300 for the EMT's and the fire department.

Sixteen-year-old Johnathon Hazen was injured in the single-vehicle accident Jan. 29, suffering liver, spleen and neck injuries and broken vertebrae. Hazen is recovering after hospitalizations in North Platte and Kearney. He and his family wanted to give back to the personnel of the Frontier County Ambulance and Curtis Fire Department, so they planned and hosted the hamburger feed March 7.

Johnathon thanked all who attended the benefit and told the Frontier County Enterprise newspaper, "It is so great to live in a community where everyone comes together to help."

Johnathon is a sophomore at Medicine Valley High School and is the son of Deb and Denny Hazen.
