Wayne Henry Pick

McCOOK, Neb. -- Wayne Henry Pick of McCook passed away Monday, Feb. 29, 2016, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney. He was 82 years old.

Wayne was born on July 21, 1933, at Quick, Neb., to parents, Henry and Mary (Andrijeski) Pick. He graduated from McCook High School in 1951.

Wayne entered the U.S. Army on Dec. 7, 1955. He was honorably discharged on Oct. 31, 1957.

On April 2, 1964, he was united in marriage to Donna Needham at St. Patrick's Catholic Church. To this union 11 children were born. They made their home in McCook, where Wayne worked as a mechanic for Hormel and later Howard Kool Chevrolet. He was a devoted employee of 36 years until his retirement in 1998.

Wayne was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church. He was an original member of the 4th Degree Knights of Columbus Assembly 0600. He served as Financial Secretary from 1962-1979 for the 3rd Degree Knights of Columbus Council 1126.

While Wayne's children were growing up, he coached baseball at Felling Field. He instilled a strong work ethic in his children and enjoyed attending his grandchildren's activities. Gardening was a favorite hobby in the summer. After retirement he assisted in delivering Meals on Wheels for almost 12 years for Heritage Senior Center.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Henry and Mary Pick; and son, Bruce Pick.

Survivors include his wife of almost 52 years, Donna Pick of McCook; daughters, Karen (Curtis) Rounsborg of Gilbert, Ariz., Joann (David) Barenberg of McCook, Nancy Pick of McCook, Gloria (Christopher) Paisley of Cambridge and Linda Pick of McCook; sons, Keith Pick of Baltimore, Md., John (Staci Tomlin) Pick of Cambridge, Kevin (Lorelyn Delos Reyes Furlage) Pick of Gilbert, Ariz., Steven (Ashley Kemper) Pick of Phoenix, Ariz., and Dennis (Molly) Pick of Lincoln; sister, Arlene Lasneski of McCook; and 12 grandchildren, Hunter, Ashley, Jordan, Danielle, Justin, Logan, Emma, Mia, Audrey, Joshua, Trey and Savannah; numerous family and a host of friends.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Wayne H. Pick Family Memorial Scholarship at McCook Community College.

Visitation will be Friday, March 4, 2016, from 9 a.m. until time of Rosary at Herrmann Jones Funeral Chapel. Rosary will be recited at 8 p.m.

Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, March 5, 2016, 10:30 a.m. at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, McCook, with Father Gary Brethour and Deacon Mark Vrbas as Celebrants. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery.
