McCOOK, Neb. -- Mary Jo Baumfalk of McCook passed away Sunday, Feb. 21, 2016, at Hillcrest Nursing Home. She was 71 years old.

Mary Jo was born on April 16, 1944, at McCook to parents, L. Jake and Genevieve Greta (Ike) Wagner. She graduated from McCook High School in 1962.

On Sept. 8, 1962, she was united in marriage to Dick Baumfalk in McCook. To this union two sons, James and Michael, were born.

Besides being a busy mother Mary Jo worked for her mother at Gen's Bridal Store. She later worked for Community Hospital in environmental services and later in central supply until her retirement.

Mary Jo spent hours working counted cross stitch. She enjoyed the outdoors, especially when camping and fishing. She was an avid football fan, particularly for her beloved Nebraska Cornhuskers and Denver Broncos. She collected angels and cookbooks, often sharing recipes with family and friends. Mary Jo was a people person and loved spending time and conversation with her family and friends at the Eagle's Club.

Preceding her in death were her parents, Jake and Gen Wagner; and son, James Baumfalk.

Survivors include her son, Michael (Brenda) Baumfalk of McCook; aunt, Louise Krutsinger of Omaha; and special friend, Norma Barnett of McCook; numerous family and a host of friends.

Memorials may be given in her name.

Visitation will be Thursday, Feb. 25, 2016, from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. at Herrmann Jones Funeral Chapel. Friends may send online condolences to the family at www.herrmannfh.com

Funeral services will be Friday, Feb. 26, 2016, 11 a.m. at Herrmann Jones Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Richard Karr officiating. The family will honor Mary Jo's wishes for cremation to follow the service.
