McCOOK, Neb. -- A plea agreement was reached recently in Red Willow County District Court with a convicted burglar sent to prison in 2014 and already facing a string of new felonies stemming from a recent offense.

The burglar, 27-year-old Jesse L. Morrison formerly of 1004 E. Fourth Street, was sentenced to 18 to 36 months in state prison in June of 2014 and released after serving a little more than four months. Morrison's sentence was cut in half by Nebraska's "good time" provisions and further shortened by a credit at sentencing he received for 128 days already served.

The conviction stemmed from a 2012 Christmas Eve break-in at D&S Hardware. The burglary resulted in an extensive repair bill for the business and the store's safe was later recovered outside of city limits.

Morrison was recently charged with multiple felonies stemming from an incident in March, including criminal trespassing and possession of burglary tools. He accepted a plea agreement earlier this month dismissing several of the charges, including the Class IV felony alleging possession of burglary tools; a Class 3 misdemeanor alleging second degree criminal trespassing; and an infraction alleging possession of marijuana.

The plea agreement admitted guilt to a Class IV felony offense for operating a motor vehicle to avoid arrest and reduced a Class IV felony alleging possession of methamphetamine to a Class I misdemeanor for attempted possession of meth. It also reduced a Class 3 felony alleging possession of a deadly weapon by a convicted felon to a Class IV felony for attempted possession of a weapon.

The trespassing charge stemmed from an alleged offense occurring at a garage located at 107 E. Fifth Street and the deadly weapon charge stemmed from a knife, according to court documents.

Morrison was subsequently scheduled for sentencing on two Class IV felonies and one Class I misdemeanor at 10:15 a.m. on March 7, 2016, in Red Willow County District Court.
