Community Hospital expanding cafeteria, closed to public for six weeks

Friday, February 12, 2016

McCook, Neb. -- Community Hospital's cafeteria, the Harvest Café, will close Monday, Feb. 15 for about six weeks during an expansion and remodeling project. During that time, there will be no food available for the public. Inpatient food service will not be interrupted.

The remodeling project will nearly double the size of the current cafeteria. Seating will expand from 32 to 50 seats. Added space will allow more room for wheelchairs and walkers. The new floor plan will also allow the food service staff to serve an additional daily main entrée. Food choices will be listed on a new electronic menu board, which will eventually contain nutritional information.

Space taken from the main lobby, a meeting room, the former gift shop and an IT/telephone storage room will all be used in the makeup of the new cafeteria.

Traffic flow will also be improved by adding a separate entrance and exit. The new entrance will be on the main hallway just around the corner from the lobby.

Although family members will not have the advantage of going to the cafeteria during the remodeling period, two Nutrition Centers are available on the patient wing which are equipped with snacks, beverages, soups, cereals, etc.
