After twelve years as Executive Director of the McCook Economic Development Corporation, Rex Nelson has decided to step down.

Nelson plans to pursue a new opportunity that will take him closer to his children and grandchildren in eastern Nebraska and the Kansas City area, according to an MEDC press release issued Tuesday afternoon.

MEDC board chair Jim Ulrich said the process of recruiting a new director will begin immediately. Nelson will remain in his position at MEDC for a few months in order to assist the recruitment process and to support ongoing projects.

"It has been a wonderful experience serving this organization and this great community; I am so very appreciative and thankful for having been given the opportunity here" said Nelson, "there are things I hoped to accomplish that are unfinished, but I have invested myself totally in the community these past years, which I hope will result in many lasting returns."

Since becoming Director, Nelson has impacted McCook in multiple ways, including creation of the Keystone Business Center, facilitating financing for a number of business transitions and expansions, several housing projects and helping recruit the Cobblestone Hotel.

While the MEDC knows it will be hard to replace Nelson, they look forward to the ongoing economic development potential of McCook and the ideas from a new MEDC Executive Director to realize that potential.
