NORFOLK, Neb. -- Donald W. "Bud" Day, 79, of Norfolk, died Thursday, Dec. 31, 2015, at Faith Regional Hospital in Norfolk.

He was born Oct. 15, 1936, in Ewing, Nebraska, to Royvan and Grace (Thoendel) Day. He graduated from Wheeler County High School in 1953 and later from Safety Patrol School. He married Lila Woeppel on Feb. 22, 1958, at United Methodist Church in Ewing.

After marriage, Donald and Lila lived in Broken Bow, Nebraska. Donald worked for the Nebraska State Patrol from 1963-1991, achieving the rank of Sergeant. They then moved to Colorado from 1991 to 2000, where he worked at McKee Medical Center in maintenance. In 2000, Donald and Lila moved to McCook until 2008, when they moved to Norfolk. Donald was a member of the Rock Club, and enjoyed fishing and hunting. He served in the United States Army from Sept. 29, 1955, to Aug. 26, 1957, serving 18 months in Germany.

He was a member of First United Methodist Church, Norfolk.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Royvan and Grace; and three brothers, Richard, Jerry and Bill.

Survivors include his wife, Lila Day of Norfolk; children, Cynthia and husband, Jim Gage of Longmont, Colorado, Connie and husband, Mike Seevers of Fairmont, Nebraska, Ronald and wife, Angie Day of Bismark, North Dakota, Cheryl and husband, Jim Neal of Chandler, Arizona, and Michelle and husband, Bryon Grove of Oaks, North Dakota;12 grandchildren, raising one grandchild, Nikea and husband John Brady, 13 great-grandchildren; and sisters, Donna Moore of Texas and Pat and husband, Lynn Wilkinson of Neligh.

Services are Wednesday, Jan. 6, 2016, 10:30 a.m. at First United Methodist Church in Norfolk. Military rites will be by the American Legion Post 16, and V.F.W. Post 1644, both of Norfolk, and the United States Army Honors Guard. Internment is at Prospect Hill Cemetery, Norfolk.

Visitation is Tuesday, Jan. 5, 2016, 4 to 7 p.m. at Stonacek Funeral Chapel in Norfolk.
