Memorial, charity auction
McCook, Nebraska, Fraternal Order of Eagles No. 2769 plans its annual charity auction Sunday, Dec. 13, in memory of Eagles member and auction founder Melvin Thielbar, who died Dec. 28, 2014. His daughter, Pam Thielbar Messinger of McCook, carries on her father's legacy, coordinating the auction to honor her dad's volunteer spirit and dedication to the Eagles. Mel said as he prepared for the auction in 2012, "I believe in charity, and the club believes in charity. The Eagles' motto is 'People helping people'." Dinner on Sunday will be served at 5 p.m., followed by the auction, both at the Eagles Club at 805 East B. Auctioneers will sell all new merchandise donated to the auction by McCook and area merchants. Auction proceeds are divided among the Eagles' favorite charities. The event is open to the public.
