Former McCook attorney sentenced to 18 years
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- A former McCook attorney who went to prison for theft and forgery in Nebraska in 1998 was sentenced to 18 years in prison on Nov. 30 for stealing more than $1 million from two water districts in Colorado.
Terry Dean Malcom, 67, admitted to stealing more than $800,000 from the Cascade Metropolitan District from July 2007 to May 2013. In September, he agreed to plead guilty to three counts of felony theft of more than $20,000, according to prosecutors.
Malcom was sentenced in March 1998 to serve 2-6 years in the Nebraska prison for theft by deception and 1-3 years for second degree forgery. The thefts included $300,000 from a local estate and life insurance policy.
After his release and move to Colorado, he accused of stealing $825,000 from the Cascade Metro District and $206,000 from the Arabian Acres Metro District, for a total of $1,031,000.
