Dorwin (Dode) Duane Felker

McCOOK, Neb. -- Dorwin D. Felker, age 80, passed away Thursday , Nov. 26, 2015, at his home in rural McCook area.

"Dode" was born on March 4, 1935, in McCook to Emanuel and Vera (Casper) Felker. He graduated from McCook High School in 1953. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps on June 29, 1954. He served until June 28, 1956, and then was transferred to the Marine Corps Reserve and was released after eight years with the Reserve, that ended June 28, 1962.

Dode came back to McCook in 1956 and went back to work for Hinky Dinky Grocery store. In May of 1959, he went to work for the CB&Q railroad; he spent 38 years with the the railroad, retiring May 27, 1997.

Dode was united in marriage to Roberta June Smith at the Christian Church in Bartley, Nebraska, on Nov. 2, 1958. To this union two sons were born. Reggie Duane and Rex Dean.

Dode and Roberta built the home they have lived in the past 50 years this last April overlooking the Republican Valley. Dode liked living in the country, puttering in his garage and enjoyed auctions.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Emanuel and Vera Felker; father and mother-in- law, Bert and Bernice Smith; brother, Gary Lee; niece, Linda Felker; and nephew, Dan Felker.

Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Roberta; son, Reggie (Becky) of McCook and Rex of Enders, Nebraska; three grandsons, Jeremy (Kristin) of Warren, Maine, Chris (Vanessa) of Sierra Vista, Arizona, and Justin (Kimberly) of Chandler, Ariona; two great-grandchildren, Ashlyn and Zackery of Chandler, Arizona; two sisters, Sharon (Don) Kluge of Gretna, Nebraska, and Nancy of Omaha, Nebraska; and several nephews and nieces.

Memorials may be given in his name. It was Dode's wish and request, which his family will honor, that he be cremated with no services.
