Republican River group meets Dec. 1

OBERLIN, Kan. -- The Republican River Restoration Partners (RRRP) plans a meeting Dec. 1 in Oberlin, bringing together water officials for updates on issues affecting those living in the Republican River Basin in Nebraska, Colorado and Kansas.

The meeting, at the Gateway in Oberlin, is scheduled from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. Lunch will cost $10 per person; call an RRRP official to make lunch reservations by Tuesday, Nov. 24:

The meeting is open to the public.

The RRRP board plans its business meeting until 10:45 a.m., followed by these reports:

-- An update on the WaterSmart project sponsored by the Bureau of Reclamation in cooperation with Colorado, Kansas and Nebraska.

-- Ivan Franco with the Colorado Water Resources Division, augmentation on the North Fork of the Republican and an update on Bonny Reservoir.

-- A report on how fast water in the alluvial formation moves to the river, conjunctive water use below Harlan County Reservoir and the possibility of increasing the pool level of Lovewell Lake.

-- David Kracman from the Flat Water Group, the effects of conjunctive water issues below Harlan County Reservoir. Nebraska also studied augmentation options relating to increasing stream flow into Swanson Reservoir. Summarizing the report will be Aaron Thompson with the Bureau of Reclamation.

-- The Limited Irrigation Management Area (LIMA) project in Sheridan County, Kansas, by Shannon Cain.

-- Update on compact compliance by Mike Clements from the Lower Republican Natural Resources District.

-- Wes Sowards from the Kansas Wildlife office, the removal of undesirable vegetation on the South Fork of the Republican.
