MITCHELL, Neb. -- Frank Nolan Anderson, 87, of Mitchell, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 4, 2015 at the Mitchell Care Center. His memorial service will be 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 10, 2015, at the Mitchell United Methodist Church with Pastor Bev Russell officiating. Inurnment will follow at the Mitchell City Cemetery. Cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation. The family respectfully requests that in lieu of any flowers, memorials in Frank's honor be made in care of the Legacy of the Plains Museum, the Mitchell United Methodist Church, or to the donor's choice. Frank was born July 18, 1928, at Wilsonville, Nebraska, the son of Charles Renwick and Mary Alice (Sherrard) Anderson. He grew up on the family farm, attended country school and graduated from Wilsonville High School in 1946. He graduated from the University of Nebraska with a bachelor of science degree in agriculture in 1951 and then enlisted in the U.S. Air Force. He was honorably discharged in 1955. Frank was employed as assistant county agent in Sherman County, then returned to the University of Nebraska receiving his master of science degree in 1959.

Frank married Ila Theobald on Sept. 6, 1959, in North Platte, Nebraska. They lived in Lincoln, Nebraska, coming to Scotts Bluff County in 1960. Frank was employed at the University of Nebraska Panhandle Research and Extension Center as an associate professor of agronomy, retiring in 1990.

Frank's favorite pastimes were hunting, fishing, playing cards, and Nebraska football. He was a member of the United Methodist Church, American Society of Agronomy and the American Legion.

Survivors include his wife Ila; son, Brian Anderson of Gering; daughter, Stacy Brown of Mitchell (Keith Jarvis); daughter, Janis (Miles) Imel of Mitchell; granddaughters, Jessica (Joe) Foland of Gering, Courtney Imel of Mitchell and Bailey Imel of Scottsbluff; grandsons, Brett Brown of Lincoln, Andrew Jarvis of Torrington, and Ryan Jarvis of Sheridan; great-grandaughter, McKinlee Foland; sisters, Melva Anderson of Angels Camp, California and Zora (Chet) Yoder of Blue Hill, Nebraska.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Charles and Howard; three sisters, Dora Sylvester, Alice Babbitt and infant, Audry Anna; three brothers-in-law, Ted Anderson, Don Sylvester and Merlyn Babbitt; and daughter-in-law Denise Anderson.
