TRENTON, Neb. -- Dessie W. Lewis, age 81, of Trenton, passed away at the El Dorado Manor in Trenton on Oct. 15, 2015.

She was born in Clovis, New Mexico, on Nov. 28, 1933, to James and Clementine (Messina) Hylton. Dessie graduated from Fort Sumner High School in New Mexico in 1951. She was a tap dancer during her high school years.

In 1951 she married Roy Lewis and to this union two sons was born: Roger Dee and Pat Ed. The couple bought a ranch in December 1952 and moved south of Trenton, Nebraska. Dessie and Roy travelled around the United States as Roy was a professional rodeo cowboy.

Dessie was never afraid of work, starting as a waitress at age 13 and continuing until she retired. She worked locally as a waitress and bartender at one time or another at the Red Horse, Elks, Pow-Wow Club and Rockin' Robin's. She also owned the Amen's Bottle shop for a while. She was an 18-year member of the Trenton Emergency Crew and enjoyed going to the lake to fish, crocheting and rarely missed sporting events of her kids or grandchildren.

Dessie was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Anne; and brothers: Harvey Gibson and Parmer "Skeeter" Webb.

Dessie leaves to mourn her life-partner of 28 years, Alvie VanVleet; two sons, Roger and wife, Lisa Lewis and Pat and wife, Ronda Lewis, all of Trenton; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two sisters, Marion Bailey of Santa Fe, New Mexico and Geraldine Clark of Trenton; two brothers, Mauro Gibson of Roswell, New Mexico and LeRoy and wife, Georgine Gibson of Red Bluff, California..

Funeral services will be at the United Methodist Church in Trenton on Tuesday, Oct. 20, 2015, at 10:30 a.m. with Pastor Alisha Parde officiating. Interment will be in the Cornell Cemetery, south of Trenton.

Visitation will be at Herrmann-Jones Funeral Chapel in Trenton on Monday, Oct. 19, 2015. Memorial may left in Dessie's name at the Herrmann-Jones Funeral Chapel. Friends may leave on-line condolences at herrmannfh.com
