Remembering 9/11

Friday, September 11, 2015

Bill Weiss and his wife, Connie, place American flags into the ground at McCook Community College, at a memorial tribute Friday on the 14th anniversary of the 9/11 Islamic terrorist attacks. Flags lined the walkways near McMillan Hall, as MCC music students and the MCC choir performed "Songs for the Unsung Heros" and the poem, "Firefighter's Legacy," was read by choir student, Helen Solberg. Although sparsely attended, those present recalled the day vividly. "I was shocked and sad," said Weiss, a veteran. "And I'm still saddened with what's going on in this country today, especially the vote on the Iran nuclear deal." Donations from the event will go to fire science program at MCC, as well as to the National Association for Music Educators. Flags were flown at half-mast today, in honor of 9/11. Americans were asked to observe a moment of silence beginning at 8:46 A.M.(Eastern Daylight Time), the time the first plane struck the North Tower of the World Trade Center on Sept.11, 2001.
