Lester F. Webb

McCOOK, Neb. -- Lester was born on a farm north of Bartley, Nebraska, on July 18, 1924, to Floyd Ellsworth and Dessie (McElroy) Kinnison Webb. He passed away July 30, 2015, at the age of 91.

He attended rural school for eight years and graduated from Bartley High School in 1941.

He taught a rural school north of Holbrook for one year.

In December of 1943, he was inducted into the Army Air Force. He was sent to England and flew several missions. After 14 months, he returned to the States, where he was discharged in May of 1946.

He worked in several states at different jobs but eventually returned to McCook. He married Leona Loraine (Squires) Lutz on Aug. 9, 1958, and they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary Aug. 9, 2008.

He was raised to a master mason in 1946 at the Bartley Lodge No. 228. He received his 60-year pin in 2006. He was master of the lodge several different years. He was head of all the York Rite Bodies of McCook. He was a member of Tehama Shrine of Hastings and was Grand High Priest of the Grand Charter of Nebraska.

He and Leona joined Dorcas Chapter of Eastern Star in 1960 and received their 50-year pins in 2010. They were also dual members of Eureka Chapter No. 86 of McCook, in 1990-1991 he was Worthy Grand Patron of Grand Chapter OES of Nebraska. Sister Bonnie Evans of Ainsworth was his Worthy Grand Matron.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Floyd and Dessie Webb; and two sisters, Glenva Joyce Webb and Lila Joy Hausmann.

He is survived by his wife, Leona of Trenton (formerly McCook); son, Richard Webb and wife, Christine of McCook; granddaughters, Patricia Ford and husband, Tony, and their children Taylor and Torrington of Culbertson and Angel Fleming and husband, Scott, of Omaha; grandson, Benjamin Webb and wife, Lindsay, and son, Asher of McCook; two sisters, Marie Cochran and Elnora Burke of Bartley; brother, Donald Webb, of Berthoud, Colorado; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends.

Memorials may be given in his name.

Memorial services will be Monday, Aug. 10, 2015, 10:30 a.m. at Memorial United Methodist Church in McCook with Rev. Dr. Doug Griger officiating. A Masonic and Eastern Star Service and Veteran Honor Guard Service will be held at the church following the service. A private family inurnment will be at a later time.
