U.S. Air Force Lt. Col. George A. Larson (Ret.) of Rapid City, South Dakota, left, visits Friday afternoon with McCook history buff Shirley Johnson and High Plains Historical Society president John Hubert about military history books he has written. In 1991 and 1992, Larson and his wife traveled to all of the Army Air Bases built in Nebraska during World War II. The result is his 256-page hard-cover book called "Great Plains Warriors of World War II: Air Bases and Plants Built for War, Nebraska's Contributions to Winning the War." The book details not only the Air Base northwest of McCook, but also the World War II German prisoner-of-war camp at Indianola.
