Remember Burl Ives' song, "The Ugly Bug Ball"? And the flies in "Honey, I Shrunk the Kids"? And prehistoric predators in "Jurassic Park"? Well, this is what would happen if the three came together -- the larger-than-life ugly-bug dragonfly-raptor in Dennis and Donna Grafel's front yard at 1619 W. Second in McCook, Nebraska. The bug with what might be a 20-foot wingspan is the product of the imagination of Culbertson, Nebraska, wood-carving and chain-saw artist Kevin Gerih, who used lightning-struck elm for the bug's wings. Dennis said he's amazed and impressed by what Gerih can "see" in the natural materials he collects for his creations. (Connie Jo Discoe/McCook Gazette)
