John M. Herron Jr.

Feb. 17, 1934 - March 26, 2015

McCOOK, Neb. -- John M. Herron Jr. passed away at his home in McCook on Thursday, March 26, 2015, surrounded by his family. He was 81 years old.

John was born on Feb. 17, 1934, at Danbury, Nebraska, to parents, John M. and Ruby L. (Springer) Herron. He entered the U.S. Marines and served his country for 21 years. He was honorably discharged on June 27, 1973, as a Master Sgt. After his retirement, John owned and operated Herron's Electric and Montgomery Ward's Catalog Store. He also worked for Lord's of Indianola as a serviceman. He retired in 1996.

On Nov. 27, 1951, he was united in marriage to Beverly Brumfield at Commerce City, Colorado. To this union John was blessed with a son, John Timothy. John and Beverly were married for 54 years. Beverly preceded him in death on July 9, 2006.

On April 25, 2008, John married Louise McNutt-Tucker at McCook, Nebraska. To this union John was blessed with four step-children.

He was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church and McCook Veterans of Foreign Wars, Bernard Elbert Post No. 1652, where he had served as past Commander.

He enjoyed fishing, hunting, traveling and being with his family.

Preceding him in death were his parents, John M. and Ruby Herron; his wife, Beverly Herron; three brothers, William, Jay and Donald; brothers-in-law, Gordon Jones and Richard Bobka; sisters in-law, Dorothy Sninsky and Darlene Sorensen, and step-sister, Sandra Pester.

Survivors include his wife, Louise Herron of McCook; son, John T. Herron and wife, Pam, of McCook; step-children, Deb and husband, Doug Lau, of Imperial, Nebraska, Dari and husband, Jim Olson of McCook, Raymond Tucker and wife, Pam, of Stillwater, Pennsylvannia, and Kevin Tucker of McCook; half-brother, Lawrence Herron and wife, Rita, of McCook; two step-sisters, Sharon and husband, Larry Fisher and Shirley Barrett of Arvada, Colorado; sisters-in-law, Judy Herron, Barb Herron, Wilma Bobka and Donna Jones of Colorado, and Linda Hermes of Texas; brothers-in-law, Mel Sorensen of Utah and Ron Brumfield and wife, Marlene of Montana; 13 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews and a host of friends.

Memorials may be given in his name to St. Patrick's Catholic Church, 409 East F Street, McCook, NE 69001.

Visitation will be Tuesday, March 31, 2015, at Carpenter Breland Funeral Home in McCook from 1 to 6 p.m. Friends may go online at www.carpenterbreland.com to extend condolences to the family.

Rosary will be recited Tuesday, March 31, 2015, 7 p.m. at Carpenter Breland Funeral Home.

Mass of Christian Burial will be Wednesday, April 1, 2015, 10:30 a.m. at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in McCook with Father Gary Brethour serving as Celebrant. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery.
