School board to set Christmas break
McCOOK, Neb. -- After a month-long review, the McCook Board of Education will be asked to finalize a school calendar for next year, with either a longer or shorter Christmas break, at its regular meeting Monday, 6:30 p.m. at the junior high conference room.
The board will also be asked Monday night to approve two resignations, an interlocal agreement with a new property insurance company and to review or re-approve six existing board policies.
Two drafts of a school calendar were presented to the board at its February meeting by Superintendent Grant Norgaard. Norgaard recommended the first draft, with a shorter Christmas break that begins Wednesday, Dec. 23. This calendar makes the days in each semester more equal, with the last day of school on Tuesday, May 17.
The second draft has Christmas break beginning on Monday, Dec. 21, with the last day of school May 20.
Resignations the board will be asked to approve come from two Central Elementary teachers, Meggie Eisenreich, fifth grade reading teacher and Sarah Reinert, a resource teacher.
During administrative comments, McCook Schools business manager Rick Haney will discuss with the board the agreement with ALICAP property insurance co-op. According to information contained with the school board agenda, "All Lines Interlocal Cooperative Aggregate Pool (ALICAP)" is a group of 158 Nebraska schools that pool together its insurance contributions to negotiate broader coverages, manage expenses and realize investment return. Annual premiums have been estimated for the McCook School District at $125,638.
Also during administrative comments, Norgaard will discuss teacher recruiting fairs and the selection process.
The bevy of board policies the board will be asked to review or re-approve Monday include: special ad hoc committees, legal services for the district, regular board meetings, open meetings, closed sessions and meeting notice.
