Gerald Ivan Barratt II

July 6, 1961 - Nov. 22, 2014

LEAWOOD, Kan. -- Gerald Ivan"Jerry" Barratt II, 53, was born in McCook, Nebraska, on July 6, 1961, then moved to the Omaha area while still a boy. He spent many summers with his Grandma Barratt and the Dack family (dearly loved aunt, uncle, and cousins), enjoying life away from "the city."

After graduating high school, Jerry attended the University of Nebraska while also aggressively pursuing his pilots license. He loved to fly - even if it meant landing on gravel roads in southwest Nebraska, where he settled after some college. There he worked for his Uncle Dick on the Dack farm. This was a special time in Jerry's life. During this time, Jerry met his wife- to-be, Melani Emrich, who he married after moving to Dallas, Texas.

Jerry and Melani were married for 25 years during which time they had three beautiful daughters - Scout, Skylar, and Piper. While working for The Iams Co. and P & G, they were able to share the adventure of living in Toronto, Canada, Kansas City, Sydney Austraila, Council Bluffs, Iowa and then back to Kansas City. To his employers and coworkers, he showed himself to be a godly, hardworking and honorable man as well as a loyal friend.

Prior to having their children, Jerry and Melani loved to spend time scuba diving and traveling. Upon becoming a parent, Jerry continued to show himself to be a wonderful husband, father, and a "fixer of all things broken." Ultimately, he was a man of strong Christian faith who knew how to take care of his family.

Jerry is survived by his wife, three daughters, a brother, two sisters, and his parents.

A reception will be at Christ Community Evangelical Free Church in Leawood on Dec. 6, 2014, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Cremation was handled by Signature Funerals in Kansas City, Missouri.
