Woman to face felony sentencing stemming from accident

McCOOK, Neb. -- A local woman who pulled in front of a motorcycle at a McCook intersection in July, and fled the scene after the bike slammed into the side of her SUV, pleaded guilty Monday in Red Willow County District Court to a felony offense stemming from the incident.

The woman, 61-year-old Darla G. Wilson of 1111 West Third Street, was subsequently scheduled for sentencing at 1 p.m. on Dec. 1, 2014. Wilson admitted guilt to a Class 3A felony offense for leaving the scene of a personal injury accident and an infraction for no insurance.

The accident occurred at just past 6 p.m. on July 9, 2014. Wilson pulled in front of a motorcycle driven by 50-year-old Kelly Doyle of McCook at the intersection of West First Street and West J Street, causing the motorcycle to slam into the side of her SUV after being unable to stop in time. Wilson fled the scene without reporting the accident or stopping, according to the accident report.

Law enforcement officers responding to the scene measured a skid mark left along West J Street by Doyle's motorcycle to be a little more than 22 ft. long.

Other activity in Red Willow County District Court, Oct. 6, 2014:

* 21-year-old Brandon M. Deater of 518 W. First Street Apt. 11 pleaded not guilty to Class 3 felony theft by unlawful taking and a Class IC felony alleging use of a deadly weapon to commit a felony. The charges against Deater stem from the alleged theft of a heifer belonging to Dan Larinton on Aug. 3, 2014.

Deater was subsequently scheduled for a status hearing at 11:30 a.m. on Dec. 1, 2014.

* 44-year-old Anthony M. Haar of Rawlins, Wyoming, was sentenced to 60 days in jail, with credit given for 46 days already served, stemming from probation violations filed in 2009 related to driving under revocation and failure to appear offenses.

Haar was originally convicted in 2007 on five felony and six misdemeanor counts of second degree forgery, stemming from more than $5,000 in bad checks he wrote on a account belonging to Donald and Kathy Pinney.

Haar was ordered to pay restitution and sentenced to 36 months probation in September 2007. He began a string of probation violations beginning in June of 2008 and included charges for writing bad checks in Hall and Furnas County in 2009, drunk driving arrests in Iowa and Wyoming in 2008 and 2009 respectively, among other offenses.
