IRS phone scams reported

McCOOK, Neb. -- Law enforcement officials are again warning of phone calls from scam artists posing as Internal Revenue Service and other government officials in an attempt to extort area residents.

The scammers state their call is the last contact before legal action will be taken, giving their victim a small time window to call back or risk legal action, according to a press release from the McCook Police Department issued Monday morning.

The police department reported numerous recent accounts from citizens with a variety of call back numbers.

"The police department appreciates the input from our citizen's and reminds folks simply that if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is," said Sr. Sgt. Kevin Darling. "Additionally if you already know you don't owe the IRS money, or anyone for that matter, don't let someone guilt you into being foolish with your personal information and property."

Darling thanked residents for their cooperation and input, and encouraged continued efforts to work together to provide for everyone's security and well being.
