A very determined Red Willow County, Nebraska, commissioner Vesta Dack struggles with bolt cutters at the "ribbon" cutting of the new Red Willow County Law Enforcement Center in McCook Sunday afternoon. "I can do this!" Dack laughed, as jail superintendent Gerry Hunter reached in to help guide her cutting of a link on the leg irons. Hundreds toured the new jail; checking out a medium-high security cell were Howard Kool, Randy Andrews and Donnie Schamel. Inside the electronic visitation room, retired Nebraska State Patrol Sgt. Marshall Grant and his wife, Jean, enjoyed refreshments. Sheriff Gene Mahon, right, thanked county commissioners and the county's taxpayers "for allowing this project to move forward." He read from the program that the new facility is, "erected by the people of Red Willow County and dedicated by them to justice and good government." The sheriff concluded, "This facility will make Red Willow County a safer place to be."
