Eleven-year-old Sage Graves of McCook learns that her name in Spanish is "Verde Musgo," during summer Spanish classes taught at the Museum of the High Plains by Chilean native Patty Keene of McCook. Sage, her grandmother Sandy Graves and other students recorded their essays during the final class Tuesday morning. (Connie Jo Discoe/McCook Gazette)

Nine-year-old Isaac Nielsen of McCook, Nebraska, and his 8-year-old sister Abi also learned that they enjoy Mexican quiche, Mexican wedding cookies and bruschetta. Other students were Isaac and Abi's mother, Angie Nielsen; Kelley Sexson of Farnam; Clara Dunn of Indianola; and Jane Schuster, Rylan Peters and Kelsey Woitaszewski of McCook. Patty donated her time and the proceeds from her summer classes at the museum -- $1,350 -- to the High Plains Historical Society. This is the third summer that Patty has taught Spanish at the museum and the attached historical Carnegie Library. (Connie Jo Discoe/McCook Gazette)
