The "Grandchildren of Orville and Ruth Stewart" -- represented by Becki Lampe carrying her sack-full of "gold coins" and "doubloons" -- sail a pirate ship in the annual "Old Settlers Celebration" parade Saturday morning in Indianola, Nebraska. While the parade theme was "Where the Treasure Lies," and most floats ran with the pirate theme, other parade entries declared that "family" is where the treasure lies. A church float declared, "For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also." Luke 12:34. The weekend was perfect for family reunions, picnics, kids' games and a carnival in the park, soapbox derbies, a road rally, pool tournaments and a rolling pin throwing contest. At the car show, shining their cars back-to-back were Earl Hanson of Norton, Kansas, and his 1953 Chevy, and Mike, also of Norton, and his Mercury. The "Lucky Button" drawing pays $200 to the holder of Button No. 214; call Ann Teel at (308) 340-4983. The Bum Malleck Memorial Threshing, postponed because of rain-soaked fields, will be Sunday, starting at noon. Follow the signs from the Republican River Bridge south of Indianola.
