McCOOK, Neb. -- A car thief already on probation for the 2013 theft of a Bristol Windows company vehicle received jail time last week after being convicted of yet another felony auto theft.

The thief, 19-year-old Jesse J. Maret of Wilsonville, was sentenced to a combined 240 days in county jail stemming from the April 2014 theft of a 1997 Nissan Sentra belonging to Dan Macaleny and related probation violations.

Maret accepted a plea agreement in May reducing a Class 3 felony offense of theft by receiving stolen property to a Class 4 felony version. He was subsequently sentenced to 120 days in county jail by Red Willow County District Court Judge David Urbom.

Judge Urbom sentenced Maret to an additional 120 days in county jail, to be served consecutively, as a result of probation violations stemming from the conviction, failing to report to his probation officer and failing to complete outpatient treatment.

Maret was pulled over in the Nissan Sentra by a McCook Police Officer on April 4, 2014, after the officer noticed the vehicle had a headlight out. The traffic stop occurred less than six months into his probation sentence in the Bristol Windows vehicle case.

After attempting to deceive the arresting officer about his identity he claimed he had been given the stolen vehicle by someone else. Maret was unable to get his story straight pertaining to the incident and gave the arresting officer a false name of the other individual he said was involved.

Maret received a 30- month probation sentence in November 2013 for the theft of the Bristol Windows vehicle. He stole the vehicle from the Chief Motel and was arrested five days later in Holdrege after being reported for careless driving.
