Rodeo Queen contest Sunday

McCOOK, Neb. -- Six young horsewomen will compete Sunday for Miss Southwest Nebraska rodeo queen titles.

Outgoing royalty are Queen Natasha Wehrman of Columbus and Junior Queen Dannyl Bromander of Eustis.

The new royalty will begin their reigns at the Red Willow County Fair rodeos Saturday and Sunday, July 26 and 27.

Taytum Dickman

Competing for the 2014-15 queen title will be Caitlin Hasenauer of Sutherland. She is the 15-year-old daughter of Marwin and Melissa Hasenauer. She will be a sophomore at Sutherland High School this fall.

Junior queen contestants are:

* Desarae Balderston of McCook. She is the 15-year-old daughter of Travis and Colette Balderston and will be a sophomore at McCook Senior High.

Chessney Friehe

* Taytum Dickman of Elwood. She is the 15-year-old daughter of Amanda Snyder and Jedd Dickman and will be a junior at Lincoln North Star.

* Chessney Friehe of Culbertson. She is the 16-year-old daughter of Brad and Jennifer Friehe and will be a junior this fall.

* Taylor J. Fugate of North Platte. She is the 13-year-old daughter of Dustie Closman, Trevor Closman and Josh Slaght. She will be an eighth grader at Maxwell Public School.

* Sadie Sand Smutny of Meadow Grove. She is the 11-year-old daughter of Rick and Sonet Smutney and will be a seventh grader at Elkhorn Valley School.

The pageant opens Sunday with a "get acquainted" get-together at 10 a.m. and interviews with judges at 11 a.m.

Following lunch, the girls will compete in horsemanship at 1 p.m. The style show, parade, speech and live auction are scheduled for 3 p.m., followed by a meal at 5 p.m., and the crowing of the royalty.
