Stamp Out Hunger
McCook, Nebraska, Post Office letter carriers gather around the 1,565 pounds of non-perishable foods donated by McCook-area postal customers Saturday in observance of the annual "Stamp Out Hunger" national food drive hosted by the National Association of Letter Carriers. From the left, Chris Dimmitt, Brett Lauer, Ron Rogers, Larry Brush, Harold Carlson, David Polly and Chris Smith are among letter carriers in 10,000 American cities and towns who have accepted postal customers' generous donations of more than 1 billion pounds of food in the past 20 years and delivered them to local food pantries. The drive also relies on the backing of the National Rural Letter Carriers Association, Feeding America food bank network, the United Way of America and its local United Ways, the AFL-CIO Community Services network, Uncle Bob's Self Storage and local sponsors. Vern Leibrandt, who is contract custodian at the McCook Post Office, helped McCook Pantry volunteers Marilyn Brandt and Bob Hardy load the local donations into Marilyn's pickup this morning.
