MNB Student of the Month scholarship winners announced

McCOOK, Nebraska -- MNB Student of the Month Scholarship finalists and their families were recognized at the fourth annual MNBScholarship Banquet and Ceremony on March 18 in McCook.

The $500 tuition scholarships were awarded to Andrea Wach of Hayes Center High School and Bryn Carriker of McCook High School.

Andrea Wach is a senior at Hayes Center High School with a 3.9 GPA. Throughout high school, Andrea has been active in volleyball, basketball and track. She has also been involved in FFA, quiz bowl, band and National Honor Society. Andrea has been recognized for academic all-state and for volleyball, basketball and track. She is active in the community through 4-H, Red Cross blood drives and participating in church youth group activities and mission trips. Andrea plans to major in agricultural communications and public relations.

Bryn Carriker is a senior at McCook High School with a 3.9 GPA. Throughout high school, she has been active in sports, participating in cross country, track and swim team. Bryn has also been in national honor society, math club and she serves as the copy editor for the yearbook. Bryn has been recognized for academic all-state in cross country and swim. In the community, she has volunteered for Feed My Starving Children and various church activities. Bryn plans to major in English.

Students were eligible for the scholarship after being named an MNB Student of the Month winner as high school juniors.

The "MNB Student of the Month Award" is designed to recognize one area student, every month from September through April, for their accomplishments and hard work. Academics, extracurricular school activities, as well as other community activities are all factors in determining a winner. The award is open to area juniors. Nominations for the award must be submitted by area teachers, guidance counselors or administrative staff of the student's school to be considered.
