Tourism effort on agenda

McCOOK, Nebraska -- Red Willow County commissioners and the county's tourism director will discuss recently-approved state legislation aimed at improving visitor attractions and facilities in the county, during the commissioners' meeting scheduled to begin at 9 a.m., Monday, in the commissioners' room on the third floor of the courthouse in McCook.

At 9:15 a.m., Carol Schlegel, the county's tourism director, will explain to commissioners the mission of LB 215, the establishment of a "County Visitors Improvement Fund" and application guidelines for a Visitors Improvement Fund grant.

At 9:30 a.m., Chris Berry of Lutheran Family Services, McCook, will discuss the possibility of creating a "Southwest Community Planning Coalition" in order to claim $75,000 in additional federal grant funds.
