CAMBRIDGE, Nebraska -- Philip D. Young, age 59, of Cambridge died at his home on Feb. 14, 2014.

He was born in McCook, Nebraska, on May 10, 1954, to Eugene "Gene" and Patricia (Witte) Young. Philip attended grade school and high school in Cambridge, graduating from Cambridge High School in 1973. He was active in sports.

On Feb. 16, 1974, Philip was united in marriage to Debra Stine at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. To this union three children were born: Kraig, Suzanne and Jessica.

Philip worked for his father at Young's Repair as an electrician for one year. In June of 1974, he was employed as a lineman by Twin Valley Public Power Company. Philip worked for Twin Valley for 38 years before his health forced him to retire.

Philip loved the outdoors. Philip took several trips to Colorado to hunt elk. He spent a lot of time bow hunting deer along the Republican River and at Harry Strunk Lake. Philip and Deb spent a lot of time at their cabin at the lake, fishing and making many family memories. He also enjoyed his garden.

He was preceded in death by his paternal and maternal grandparents.

He is survived by his wife, Deb of Cambridge; one son, Kraig and his wife, Amanda Young of Kearney; two daughters, Suzanne and husband, Tony Neels of Sidney, Nebraska, and Jessica and husband, Randy Grindle of Kearney; 11 grandchildren; parents, Gene and Pat Young of Cambridge; one brother, Lynn and wife, Joyce Young of Eustis and one sister, Lisa and husband, Kurt Gerken of Elwood.

Rosary will be recited at the Lockenour-Jones Mortuary today at 7 p.m. with Father Konka. Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday, Feb. 18, 2014, at 1 p.m. at St. John the Baptist Church in Cambridge with Father Konka officiating. Interment will be in St. John's Catholic Cemetery in Cambridge.
