ARAPAHOE, Nebraska -- Joyce M. Gardner, 84, died Wednesday (Jan. 29, 2014), at Cambridge Hospital in Cambridge, Nebraska.

She was born on May 26, 1929, north of Holbrook, Nebraska, to Henry F. and Carrie (Rupp) Lucas.

She graduated from Holbrook High School in 1946. She taught for two years at a country school north of Holbrook. On June 3, 1948, she married Duane A. Gardner of Arapahoe. They farmed in Gosper County until moving to Arapahoe in June 1992.

She was a member of the Every Ready Club and Women's Club of Arapahoe. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church of Arapahoe and served on the LWML, Mission Mall, Music, and vacation Bible school committees.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Duane Gardner; three sisters, Phyllis Gormly, Evelyn Buk and Marcella Carter, and one infant brother, Owen Lucas.

She is survived by children, Vickie Gardner and friend, David Balsinger of Fort Collins, Colorado, Randy and wife, Carla Gardner of Arapahoe and Cheryl Gardner Severance of Beatrice, Nebraska; sister-in-law, Norma Gardner of McCook, Nebraska and six grandchildren.

Funeral services are Monday, Feb. 3, 2014, at 10:30 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Arapahoe with Rev. James Moshier officiating. Interment will be at Arapahoe Cemetery at Arapahoe.

Viewing and visitation is Sunday, Feb. 2, 2014, from 2 to 8 p.m. at Wenburg Funeral Home in Arapahoe and prior to the service.
