Dale Edward Mues

July 25, 1934 - Jan. 22, 2014

BARTLEY, Nebraska -- Dale Edward Mues, 79, was born south of Holbrook July 25, 1934, to Rudolph and Margret (Pierce) Mues. He grew up with two brothers, Don and Ken, on a farm two miles northeast of Bartley and graduated from Bartley High School in 1952.

He was married to Gladys Faye Sickels on Nov. 26, 1953. They lived in McCook, Lincoln, and outside of Holbrook, eventually settling in Bartley with their two daughters, Marsha and Wendell.

He worked several jobs in the area before being employed by Burton Well Drilling until his retirement. He was an EMT for the Volunteer Fire Department and a member of ABATE for many years. He had a passion for motorcycles and collecting or building guns. He was always reading in pursuit of knowledge. He was a handy man extraordinaire and excelled in mechanical and electrical areas. It would often seem that he would merely need to run his hand over any problem and it was fixed.

He was ill for some time and was diagnosed with lung cancer in February. He improved with treatments, but they took a toll. He died of heart failure in his home on Jan. 22, 2014.

Dale is survived by his wife, Gladys, and his two daughters, Marsha and husband, Mike Sides of Bartley and Wendy and husband, Dale Bonge of Albion. He had six grandchildren, Rudy and wife, Hilary Kennedy of Indianola, Russell Kennedy of McCook, Tyler and wife, Krista Kennedy of Indianola, Jordan Bonge and fiancé, Thomas Jacobsen of Lincoln, Drew Bonge, currently in Albion, and Devyn Bonge of Lincoln.

Dales' great-grandchildren are Mason Alexander Kennedy and Hudson Dale Kennedy.

Dale was preceded in death by his parents, Rudolph and Margret; and his two brothers, Don and Kenneth.

Memorial services for Dale will be at 2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 27, 2014, at Lockenour-Jones Funeral Home in Cambridge.
