PARKS, Nebraska -- Jerome Wayne Cox was born on May 15, 1941, in Imperial, Nebraska, to Donald W. and Madeline M. (Dixon) Cox.

Jerry grew up on his parent's farm 18 miles south of Imperial, located in Dundy County. Jerry went to grade school at Hiawatha Country School and graduated from Chase County High School. After high school, Jerry went to McCook Community College and while there he played on their football team.

Jerry was married to his lovely wife, Virginia K. Sis, on April 20, 1963, at St. John's Catholic Church in rural Mc Donald, Kansas.

After briefly living in Enders and Kearney, Jerry and Virginia eventually settled on his parent's farm in rural Dundy County, where he began farming with them. After Madeline's and Don's passing, Jerry continued to farm until his retirement a few years ago.

Jerry had many interests that he enjoyed over the years. They include such activities as steer wrestling, camping, fishing and hunting with memberships in the Eagles and VFW clubs. There are a few activities that Jerry was passionate about. Those included: playing cards and shooting pool with his buddies, trap shooting -- especially (doubles), cheering for the Huskers and the many seasons of road trips to the Bronco's home games. Above all, Jerry found pride and joy in his two children.

Jerry passed away at his home on Monday, Jan. 13, 2014. He was 72 years of age.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, Don and Madeline; wife, Virginia and infant daughter, Christina.

Jerry is survived by his son, Thomas of Flagstaff, Arizona, daughter, Kristi Bernhardt and husband Kurt of Lamar, Nebraska, grandchildren, Preston, Alexa, Austin and Ryan Bernhardt; brothers-in-law, Leo Sis and wife, Margaret of Omaha, Nebraska, Chuck Sis and wife, Pat of Grand Junction, Colorado, Mike Sis and wife, Diane of Atwood, Kansas; sisters-in-law, Freda Menze and husband, Don of Hutchinson, Kansas, Elaine Murphy and husband, John of Madison, Wisconsin, and many nephews and nieces.

The Mass of the Christian Burial was celebrated Monday morning, Jan. 20, 2014, 10:30 a.m. (MT) at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Imperial, Nebraska, with Father Bernard Lorenz celebrating. Inurnment followed at Mount Hope Cemetery in Imperial.

No visitation, Jerry was cremated.

A memorial has been established in Jerry's memory.
