HASTINGS, Nebraska -- Hastings resident Opal Ann Henke, 84, passed away Monday, Dec. 30, 2013, at Mary Lanning HealthCare in Hastings, Nebraska.
Opal Henke was born Dec. 27, 1929, in Meek, Nebraska, the daughter of Charles and Iva Mae (Winchell) Hull. She grew up and attended grade school in Redbird, Nebraska, and high school in Crete, Nebraska. While raising her family, Opal worked as a production worker, bus driver for special needs children, and housekeeper while touching many lives. She retired in 1992 and later moved to Hastings, Nebraska, to be closer to family.
Opal is survived by her three daughters, Karen Melchert and her husband Rick of Trenton, Nebraska, Joyce Pennington and her husband, Richard of Hastings, Nebraska, Cheryl Chandler and her husband, Clark of Lincoln, Nebraska, and one daughter-in-law, Lana (Henke) and Roy Mitchell of Lincoln, Nebraska; ten grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; sister, Neoma Wilson; brother, Leo Hull and his wife, Donna of Mesa, Arizona; two sister-in-laws, Carol Hull of Columbia, Missouri, and Henrietta Hull of DeRitter, Louisiana.
She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Gary Henke; and two brothers, Ivan and Marvin Hull.
DeWitt Funeral Home in Hastings, Nebraska is handling cremation arrangements.
Private prayer service will be held at a later date.
Memorials may be given to her family for a memorial to be decided upon at a later time.
