Red Willow County Sheriff Gene Mahon today released for adoption dogs dumped in a county road ditch on the evening of Dec. 21. "The shelter needs the space, and we've got all the information we need for a prosecution," Mahon said Thursday afternoon. The investigation continues into the animal abuse and abandonment situation in which a collection of small-breed Bichon, Shih Tzu, Westie, poodle, terrier and mix dogs, ranging in age from about two years old to approximately six years old, were discovered by passersby and brought to the shelter by the citizens and sheriff's deputies. Acting shelter director Lorie Prestes said that the dogs ready for adoption are friendly and sweet and have been cleaned and shaven of mats. To inquire about adoption, contact the shelter at (308) 345-2372 between 2 p.m. and 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, and between noon and 4 p.m., Saturday. The shelter is located at 100 South Street.
