Fay Irene (Shreffler) Jefferies-Sherriff

July 3, 1919 - Dec. 22, 2013

STRATTON, Nebraska -- Fay Irene (Shreffler) Jefferies-Sherriff went to be with her heavenly Father on Dec. 22, 2013, at Grandview Retirement Center in Stratton. She was 94 years old.

Fay was born on July 3, 1919, at Palisade to parents David "Ed" Edmond and Cora Bell (Deeter) Shreffler. She attended school at District No. 14 in Hayes County and later Palisade High School.

On June 30, 1937, she was united in marriage to Hadley Jefferies in McCook. She later married John Sherriff at Reno, Nevada, on Dec. 23, 1945.

Fay was a busy homemaker and mother of two children. She was a member of the Palisade United Methodist Church and American Legion Auxiliary. She loved to sew, quilt and crochet, having made an afgan for every grandchild when they graduated from high school.

Preceding her in death were her parents, Ed and Cora Shreffler; husbands Hadley Jefferies and John Sherriff; son-in-law, Harold Guldi; brothers, Edward, George and Belmont Shreffler; and sisters, Nellie Smith, Carrie Spencer, Clara Bodeman and Emma Carse.

Survivors include her son, Harlan Sherriff and wife, Linda, of Irmo, South Carolina; daughter, Kay Jefferies Guldi of Spingdale, Arkansas; six grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Also surviving is a step-son, Johnny Sherriff and wife, Linda of Muskegon, Michigan; three step-grandchildren and several step-great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be given in her name to the American Legion Auxiliary.

Graveside services will be Thursday, Dec. 26, 2013, at 2 p.m. at the Palisade Cemetery with Rev. Kevin Fink officiating.
