With 2,000 lights on the ceiling alone, plus 22 trees, various tables of mechanical toys, stockings, stuffed animals and of course, Santa, Dennis and Cathy Shannon's "Santa's Winter Wonderland" opened Friday, Dec. 6, at 110 1/2 West C. Kids can visit with Santa and browse among the toys and trees every Friday and Saturday from from 5:30-8 p.m. through Christmas, including Dec. 13 and 14 and Dec. 20 and 21. Pet night, with donations given to the McCook Humane Society, is Thursday, Dec. 12, from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., when owners can bring their pets and take pictures with Santa. Santa is busy this year, Shannon said, with bookings all over town. "We do this for the kids and the community has been very supportive," he said, citing McCook National Bank donating the space this year. This is Shannon's seventh year of setting up the "Winter Wonderland" in McCook and his 30th as Santa. Free will donations are appreciated.
