Thursday, November 21, 2013

BENKELMAN, Nebraska -- By a 4-0 vote, the Benkelman City Council Wednesday night rescinded the council's previous decision to sell the Benkelman Community Center.

The community facility, located in the western part of Benkelman, formerly served as the Friends Church. It was purchased, remodeled and given to the city in 2002 by the Ham Family Foundation.

The center issue has generated considerable discussion in the Dundy County seat town, resulting in a council review of their previous decision to close the center.

The Council members who voted to rescind the decision to sell the center were Tammy Buffington, Sharon Chartier, Judy Clark and Tim Swenson. The Benkelman mayor, Harry Whittington, does not vote except in the case of a tie vote.
