Christmas Toy Box collections under way

Thursday, November 21, 2013

McCOOK, Nebraska -- The McCook community's 32nd annual "Christmas Toy Box" collection begins now, with the annual appearance of specially-marked former trash receptacles at outside locations and red-and-green gift-wrapped drop boxes at inside locations throughout town.

Outside collection points will be at Alco, McCook Christian Church, Wal-Mart and Dollar General. Inside collection points will be at McCook National Bank, AmPride/Baskin Robbins, First Central Bank and Eakes Office Plus.

Bikes, trikes, wagons, skateboards and scooters can be delivered to the bike repair workshop behind the bright red garage door in the 100 block of East C Street.

"Santa's elves" depend upon the generosity and Christmas spirit of McCook and area residents to donate gifts for children whose Christmas may otherwise be bleak. Elves will accept new and gently-loved toys, dolls, games, puzzles, balls, books, action figures, stuffed animals ... the list goes on.

Monetary donations can be mailed to or dropped off at the workshop or mailed to the office of Community Action Partnership of Mid-Nebraska at 108 West C, McCook. The toy give-away will be Sunday, Dec. 22, at 1 p.m., in the McCook City Auditorium, West 5 and C.

There are no income guidelines. Elves just ask that "shoppers" do not bring sacks, bags and boxes.

  • A person never stands as tall as when they stoop to help a child. This is a great program! Kind people operating it!
