Weed superintendent attends conference

McCOOK, Nebraska -- Bill Elliott, Red Willow County Weed Superintendent, recently attended the Nebraska Weed Control Fall Training Seminar at Central Community College in Hastings. This was the third opportunity during 2013 to obtain 10 of the required 20 hours of continuing education needed annually by county weed superintendents statewide. This training was also collaborated to renew each superintendent's Commercial Applicator card, therefore, the topics presented were all part of the Noxious Weed Act Rules and Regulations. Presenters and topics presented on Tuesday included Lowell Sandell, Ag Plant, Integrated Pest Management, Equipment & Application and Calibration; Nicole Stoner, Ornamental and Turf; and Ted Bethell, Pesticides.

Wednesday's presenters and topics included Rob Schultz, Label Information and Comprehension, Doug Smith and Kristi Paul, Biological Control; Craig Romary, Environmental Protection; Scott Flynn, Modes of Action; Brian Crabtree, Pesticide Safety; Eric Fuentes, Laws & Regulations; Mitch Coffin, Right-of Way; and Dr. Bill Haller, Aquatic Plant Control. As with every NWCA training, superintendents answered morning and afternoon roll call. Each day ends with an exam that superintendents must complete and pass to obtain the hours needed.

The one remaining opportunity for continuing education hours for 2013 is the Nebraska Association of County Officials Conference in Omaha this December.
